Car drivers have been trying to find ways of evading speed cameras for years and there are no shortage of devices on the roads. These devices can include radar detectors and GPS Sat Nav that tells a driver the position of approaching speed cameras. The only problem is that most of these devices can set you back hundreds of pounds leaving them out of reach of the majority of motorists.
However motorists may be pleased to hear that a new product has just hit the high street that could help them avoid fines issued by speed cameras on the UK roads. The new product has been developed and marketed by a company called Flashtec based in the UK and consists of a reflective spray. The principle behind the product is that by coating your number plate with the product it reflects the flash of a speed camera leaving the plate blank on the photograph and there for the police with not enough evidence to follow up the offence.
All this for a few pounds, sounds too good to be true doesn't it? Well actually yes it is too good to be true.
The spray is actually illegal to use for the purpose for which it was designed rendering it useless for all intents and purposes. You may avoid a fixed fine and penalty points by using the product but you can be sure that if caught using the spray you will be fined upwards of £1000 and could face prosecution.
The product and Flashtec has been heavily criticised by the police and the DVLA who believe that Flashtec are breaking trading standards by promoting the use of an illegal product and have subsequently reported the company. Flashtec state that they are breaking no laws and seeked legal advice before marketing the product.
Whatever the outcome there is still one method to avoid fines, penalty points and an increase in prestige car insurance premiums with the added bonus that it's free...... SLOW DOWN!
