A third of all company bosses many be unwittingly driving around without incorrect level of car insurance according to a car insurance survey. This problem seems to stem from the fact that many company directors are no longer running company cars, due to the fact they cost more to maintain due to high taxes. Instead they are using their own cars and insuring them for social and domestic pleasure only. These car insurance policies usually cover you for travel to and from one place of work only.
It must be noted that any other journey made in connection with work, means essentially driving without insurance, which is a criminal offence.
Employees must take heed as well, if your boss asks you to collect a parcel from the post office or drop something off at the printers and you were using your own vehicle, you would not be insured if you had an accident whilst doing so!
Four in five (82%) of owner managers said they drove at least 50 business related miles per week.
Bosses need to review their car insurance policies to check whether they are properly covered if they are using their own cars for work matters. We would strongly suggest you do them same.
