Prestige car insurer leaves competitors standing!

As this prestige car insurer observes, there's fast. Then, there's mega fast. Prestige car insurers all know that Superman could look lively, and adopt a degree of urgency when his lady friend was in imminent danger; likewise Concorde could shift a few time-conscious suits across the Atlantic before they could get to page 4 of their 'How to con millions out of the unwitting' guide to corporate success. And, as prestige car insurers duly noted, that's impressive. Undoubtedly so. Yet they were both airborne intentionally. The Ultima GTR however, comes as close as physically possible to attain flight, whilst being classed as a road legal production car. The British super car producer (the only derivative of motoring left to assemble on these shores nowadays) has broken some record or other. Probably the fact that THEY are the ONLY British super car manufacturer remaining. Quite an achievement. Only that's not it. It's to do with zero to one hundred, and back to zero times. Or, if your like you're car information in figures as opposed to words, because you can grapple with them easier, then that's 0-100-0. Binary finery in all its natural splendour. For the third consecutive year running, the Ultima has smashed the world record for this sprint. And quick braking manoeuvre that shouldn't be tried at home. Unless home is Silverstone.

The 200mph GTR progressed from a standing start, to 100mph, and back again, in but 9.4 seconds. I couldn't even tie my laces that fast, which I believe is a suitable comparison to adjudge its ability on. During the course of its brief history of journey time, after 2.6 seconds the super car passes 60mph. 100 is noticed at 5.3 seconds. If you dare take your peepers off the runway which is rapidly diminishing in length out of the front window. Hit the brakes, and come to rest 3.6 seconds later. Bearing in mind this car doesn't benefit from new-fangled, and cumbersome commodities such as traction control or ABS, and its all the more impressive. And death-defying for the lucky test pilot who volunteered him/herself for the record-breaking chore. Then again with a chassis made of chalk, and an engine of papier-mâché things were always going to be on the exciting side of dangerous. Needless to say all three ranking are records for a road-legal, factory-standard car. In its latest guise, known as the GTR720, it generates exactly the same horses as the moniker implies - 720 of the galloping buggers. Courtesy of a Chevrolet V8 lump that's possibly not constructed from an art and design class favourite.

"The Ultima has opened up a new league of road car performance with these new independently verified figures," said wide-grinned director Ted Marlow, who, surprisingly was at the wheel for the record breaking run, having drawn the shortest straw you ever did see. "The Ultima GTR is now over two seconds quicker from zero-100mph-zero than the McLaren F1 LM and over one and a half seconds quicker than the Ferrari Enzo," he boomed, as his spinning eyeballs came to a halt in his sockets.
